Activ8 Research
The schools and academies within UCST and ULT have been involved in the creative educational use of Promethean technology since the earliest stages of its development. The Active8 Interactive Whiteboard Research Project brought together 8 of the group’s finest practitioners and told the story of how their use of interactive technology had a positive impact on their teaching and the learning of their students.
Importantly, the Active8 Interactive Whiteboard Research Project was rooted in the day to day work of the Group’s teachers, with a subject-specific focus on a number of highly pertinent and contemporary issues. Titles included:
- How can we use the Interactive Whiteboards effectively in the teaching of Synthetic Phonics?
- Using the Transparency Effect to Demonstrate the Idea of Rotation with a Year 8 Maths Class
- Using an Interactive Staging Environment to explore interpretations of a Shakespeare play
- How does using an Interactive Whiteboard to perform an everyday task such as identifying the day’s date and weather enhance children’s enjoyment, involvement and learning at Key Stage 1?
- Using the camera tool to extract and manipulate images from worksheets that can then be used interactively with a year 8 class using ACTIVStudio 3.
- An exploration of the use of self-registration using the software ACTIVstudio with children aged 4 and 5 to improve the skills of name writing and using basic icons on an Interactive Whiteboard.
The Active8 Interactive Whiteboard Research Project
was the first in a series of projects to be conducted that engaged
teachers in a reflective and proactive manner with respect to Promethean
interactive technologies in an educational setting. Since this time,
further action research has been conducted into the use of other
interactive technologies, most notably the ACTIVexpression devices.
