This module explores the notions of mentoring and coaching and what it means in different organisations, settings and to those from different professional backgrounds. This is a module for anyone interested in mentoring and coaching and we hope that different professions will come together to study and explore the issues involved. The module will enhance students’ understanding of their practice in relation to their mentoring and coaching. It will also critically engage students with the current mentoring and coaching theories and practice across professional boundaries and includes a review of mentoring and coaching research. The central themes of mentoring and coaching will be examined through the key elements of:
- What does mentoring mean?
- What does coaching mean?
- What is the relationship between mentoring and coaching?
- What is the relationship between mentoring,coaching and assessment?
- What does it mean to mentor and/or coach across professional boundaries?
- What is a mentor/coaching organisation?
- How does mentoring/coaching impact upon professional and/or personal effectiveness?
