Sheffield Hallam University
The United Learning Research Institute has had strong links with Sheffield Hallam University since 2007, most notably through the partnership that has been developed through the designing and implementation of the Teacher Leader Programme. Each year, 25 of the group’s exceptional teachers are nominated by their Heads and Principals to participate in a three day programme, held in Sheffield and London, followed by a period of classroom-based action research within their own institutions. During the three days, teachers are exposed to the following sessions:
1. Interactive session relating to the use of educational strategies and thinking skills within the classroom;
2. Instruction in the salient points of action research methodology;
3. Advice and support relating to the writing up of the Teacher Leader M Level portfolio and report for 30M or 60M Level points.
The Teacher Leader Programme was introduced in 2007 to cater for those professionals within UCST and ULT who wished to develop their pedagogical skills and progress in education whilst remaining predominantly in the classroom as excellent practitioners. Sheffield Hallam’s appeal to ULRI manifests itself in a number of ways:
- The flexibility of the Professional Learning in the Workplace (PLW) Model that is offered by Sheffield Hallam University means that it is very easy for our nominated teachers to identify, structure, implement, analyse and evaluate a programme of action research that is appropriate for their individual and school needs
- The support provided by academic staff at Sheffield Hallam University means that our teacher leader nominees have direct access to high quality support on a regular basis
- The partnership between ULRI and Sheffield Hallam University means that nominated teachers can acquire teacher leader status through engagement in the course, as well as obtaining M level credits which they can then continue through to a full MA or MSc, either through continuation with Sheffield Hallam or via transfer to another M Level University Programme
- Sheffield Hallam University is easily accessible to our schools in the north and south respectively, with excellent transport links
